itemprop=\"text\" ><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Dr. Anthony Francis\u2019 research work is primarily on Lattice Field Theory (LFT). This is a discipline that employs high-performance computing for large-scale numerical calculations in particle and nuclear physics. It is the only reliable method for handling non-perturbative calculations in quantum field theory, making it an important and unique subject in high-energy physics. Lattice field theory has been providing crucial inputs for our understanding of the universe and the interactions amongst fundamental particles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Amongst Dr. Francis\u2019 recent works, the best known is the prediction for the existence of the heavy tetraquark state. None of the previous quark-model calculations made this prediction. Yet, in 2017, by using Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), which is the fundamental theory for the interactions between quarks and gluons, Dr. Francis and his collaborators showed that this state must exist. This was the first prediction, and it was confirmed by experiments at CERN in 2019 &#8212; 2020. This work made Anthony Francis a well-known lattice field theorist, and he was invited to deliver a plenary presentation at the 2019 annual international symposium on LFT. The first member of this new family of particles was observed by experiments at CERN in 2021, with it being announced on 29. July.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In addition to the above-mentioned calculation for the tetraquark, there have been other wellknown works by Anthony Francis. For instance, he contributed significantly on the LFT computations for the muon magnetic moment (g-2 factor), which is an ideal tool for testing the standard model for particle physics and searching for new physics. This topic has been attracting a lot attention in the mass media in the West, and Dr. Francis contributed to this subject by proposing an efficient way for computing the muon g-2 factor. Anthony Francis has also been using Lattice QCD to investigate the phase transition that is relevant for the formation of nucleons from quarks and gluons at about one second after the Big Bang of the universe.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div><\/div><!--close column table wrapper.
